Laguna Wax Resist

Wax resist is a water based wax emulsion, brushed on wherever glaze is not wanted. As it dries the water leaves and the wax forms a film that glaze cannot wet.

Suggested retail price. In-store prices and availability may vary by location.

Wax resist is brushed onto foot rings and lid seats to keep them free of glaze, over a dried glaze so a second coat can be applied across a waxed pattern, and under slip or underglaze for the same effect. Glaze that lands on a waxed area beads up and wipes off. The wax needs to dry fully before glazing, and it is applied over a glaze only once that glaze is dry, since brushing wax over a damp glaze can lift it off the clay. It burns away early in the firing, well before the glaze melts, so nothing needs to be removed beforehand except excess wax beads from application.

  • A water based wax emulsion, ready to brush on
  • Dries to a film that glaze beads on instead of wetting
  • Burns away early in the firing and needs no removal
  • Freezing spoils the emulsion, so it is stored indoors over winter
