Made By Humans
This website was made by people.
Every page on it was planned, built and put together by someone, and when something changes, it’s because someone here changed it. None of it was handed to a machine. It was slower this way. It was also ours.
Where our pictures come from
A big part of that is the pictures. Every photo and video on this site and our social channels was shot by a photographer. They get edited the way photographs have always been edited – cropped, colour-corrected, cleaned up. None of them came from a prompt. That’s not going to change.
Now and then we’re stretched thin and use a stock photo or clip to fill a gap. When we do, we pick work made by a real photographer, and we replace it with our own as soon as we can.
About the badge
The badge in our footer comes from Not by AI. It started in 2023 as a plain way for people to say their work was made by humans, not generated. Using it means agreeing to one rule: at least 90% of what the badge covers has to be made by people. Software is fine for the ordinary jobs – cropping, colour correction, spell-checking. Making the thing is not.
Why we bother
This company was started by a potter, Luke Lindoe, in the early 60s. Everything we sell exists so someone can make something with their hands. It would be strange to show you that with pictures no one took, on a website no one built. So we don’t.
