The VL-Whisper earns its name. The motor sits under the head and turns it directly, so there is no belt to hum, slip or wear, and the loudest thing in the room is usually the water. Ease off the pedal and the head settles where it is instead of coasting on, which is handy when you are cutting a piece off the bat. The torque is there at a crawl too, for trimming and for pulling tall forms. The 356 mm (14 in) cast alloy head is drilled for bat pins and takes up to 45 kg (100 lb) of clay. Speed runs from 0 to 250 rpm through a foot pedal on a cable, and the head turns either way for left or right handed throwing. Set a speed and take both hands to the clay and it keeps turning at that speed. The legs adjust in 25 mm (1 in) steps between 457 and 533 mm (18 to 21 in) and lift out altogether, so the wheel stores flat or sits on a bench.
