Toffee shifts with the kiln, from oatmeal beige at the low end to a rich caramel brown at the top of its range. That makes a warm base for glazes and decoration. Its 40 percent impalpable grog keeps it smooth for throwing and fine detail, and it's rated food safe for tableware.
- 1200 to 1300°C (about cone 5 to 10)

- Shrinkage 6.2 percent drying, 5.6 percent firing at 1300°C
