Ravenscrag Slip

Ravenscrag Slip is a light coloured silty clay with little iron, and at cone 10 it melts into a glaze with nothing added but water. It has decent plasticity on its own, but to be used in a glaze around 50% needs to be calcined. It is used in glazes but not intended for forming ware.

Suggested retail price. In-store prices and availability may vary by location.

Fired by itself at cone 10, Ravenscrag Slip gives a silky, satin matte surface. At cone 6 it needs an added flux of about a fifth of its weight to melt fully, and with that the surface fires glossy. In other glazes it is added in smaller amounts, where it suspends the slurry, brushes on evenly and dries hard without settling. Several coats can be brushed onto greenware or bisque without crawling or cracking as they dry.
