North Star Universal Bat System, 330 mm (13 in) with 9 Inserts

The 330 mm (13 in) bat mounts on the wheel head like any other bat, with pin holes 254 mm (10 in) apart. A 140 mm (5 1/2 in) square insert sits flush in a machined pocket in the centre and fits snugly enough to keep clay and slurry out. Throw on the insert, lift it out by the finger slots at the corners and drop in a fresh one to keep working while your ware dries on its insert. Nine inserts are included. Medex is a moisture resistant fibreboard, but it takes up a little water at first, so expect slight movement until it settles in over a few uses. A warped insert can usually be flattened by drying it in a stack under weight.
