M370 Casting is the M370 body made without added bentonite, so it has lower drying shrinkage than the pugged clay and dries more easily in plaster moulds. To make slip, it is mixed with water and Darvan No. 7, a deflocculant that keeps the slip fluid without extra water. Add most of the Darvan to the water first, then add the powder slowly into the moving water with a propeller mixer so it disperses evenly. Keep back a little of the Darvan to adjust the flow at the end. Check the specific gravity, which compares the weight of the slip with the same volume of water, after mixing and again the next day once the slip has settled. Our M370 casting slip preparation guide has the full steps.
