Plainsman Kiln Wash is a high-temperature refractory coating designed to protect kiln shelves from glaze, clay, and other ceramic materials that may fuse to the shelf during firing. It forms a protective barrier between the ware and shelf, reducing sticking and helping prevent damage from accidental glaze runs.

Plainsman's Kiln Wash formulation is primarily composed of zircon and calcined kaolin. The high zircon content provides excellent refractoriness, while the calcined kaolin helps minimize shrinkage and cracking during firing. The coating is designed to remain relatively thin and durable through repeated firings.

Kiln wash should be applied as a thin, even coating to suitable kiln shelves and refractory furniture. Damaged or worn areas can be recoated as needed. Keep kiln wash away from heating elements and other components not intended to receive the coating.
