A stilt bar does the same job as a stilt for long, flat pieces: a straight ceramic bar 76 mm (3 in) long carrying a row of fine metal points that hold a glazed tile or plaque clear of the shelf. Use two or more under a wide piece, and grind off the small marks the points leave after firing.
