A square, hollow kiln post 25 mm (1 in) tall, for setting kiln shelves at the height you need.

Kiln posts hold up the shelves inside the kiln so ware can be fired in layers. Use three posts under each shelf, set in a triangle, so the shelf sits without rocking. Line them up with the posts on the shelf below so the weight carries straight down to the kiln floor. Pick a height a little taller than the tallest piece on the shelf underneath. The hollow centre keeps each post light.
