Insulating firebrick holds heat well and is light enough to cut and shape with a hand saw or rasp, which makes it a good choice for patching an electric kiln wall, building a small test kiln or making custom kiln supports. K23 suits most mid fire and low fire work. For hotter firings or the hot face of a kiln, choose K26. It is soft, so handle it with care and wear a dust mask when cutting.
