Insulating firebrick holds heat well and is light enough to cut and shape with a hand saw or rasp. That makes it the usual choice for patching an electric kiln wall, building a small test kiln or making custom kiln supports. The K26 rating gives it a higher working limit than a K23 brick, so it suits hotter firings and the hot face of a kiln. It is soft, so handle it with care and wear a dust mask when cutting.
