Ferro Frit 3124

Frit 3124 is a calcium borosilicate frit. Soda, calcium, boron, alumina and silica are melted to a glass and ground back to powder, so fluxes that would dissolve in the glaze water stay in the glaze. It contains its own alumina, and on its own it is close to a balanced glaze.

Suggested retail price. In-store prices and availability may vary by location.

The alumina in Frit 3124 stiffens the melt and keeps a glaze where it is applied, so the frit can be used in a recipe in quantity without running. On its own it is close to a balanced glaze. A tenth to a fifth of its weight in kaolin gives a low fire clear, and a little silica as well takes it to cone 6. It fuses around 870°C and flows around 950°C. Its thermal expansion is low enough to fit most clay bodies, and it contains a lot of calcium, which shifts browns and iron colours.
