In a Kiln Sitter, a small cone or bar sits on two supports with the sensing rod resting on top. When the cone bends at temperature, the rod drops and releases the weight on the outside of the kiln, which shuts off the power. A bent, worn or sticking rod can let the kiln overfire, so replace it if it no longer moves freely or sits level on the cone. Check the setting with a firing gauge after fitting a new rod.
