The top face keeps its bark, so what shows once the bottle is stopped is dark and rugged over a body of pale smooth cork. It is 32 mm (1 1/4 in) thick, deep enough to sit proud of the neck and to give your fingers something to pull against. Being tapered, it wedges into a neck rather than having to match one exactly, which makes it forgiving on thrown and hand-built work where no two necks come out quite the same.

- Natural cork with the bark left on the top face
