Alberta Slip

Alberta Slip is an iron bearing slip clay that contains enough flux to melt into a glaze on its own at cone 10 but requires a boron-based flux to melt at cone 6. It is blended from several raw materials.

Suggested retail price. In-store prices and availability may vary by location.

Alberta Slip melts on its own flux content, a heavy flux load in a fine clay, with the iron colouring the result and adding to the melt in reduction. Fired to cone 10 by itself it gives a rich brown in oxidation and a tenmoku in reduction. At lower temperatures it needs a small addition of boron based flux to bring it into range, and with that it works through the middle of the range as well as the top. It is also used in other glazes in smaller amounts, where it supplies colour and melt in one addition.

  • At cone 6 it requires boron-based fluxes to perform properly
