The two metals sit in a periclase crystal, which is magnesium oxide in its crystal form. Periclase offers only one kind of position, so both metals sit the same way and neither dominates the other, and the result is a soft, even grey. The powder colours glazes, slips and porcelain bodies, and Mason sets the ceiling at 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9.
- A grey from cobalt and nickel together in a periclase crystal
- One crystal with both metals in it, not two pigments blended
- Marked by Mason for porcelain bodies as well as glazes
- Ceiling 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9
- A fired and milled pigment, so it disperses into a glaze without grinding
