In this pigment praseodymium takes the place of zirconium within the zircon crystal itself. That leaves a wide open window through the blue and green part of the spectrum, so the yellow reads cold and bright and not buttery. Zircon barely dissolves in a glaze melt, so the colour is steady across a wide range of bases. Mason sets the ceiling at 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9, with an oxidising firing.
