Cassiterite stays solid through a glaze firing, so the vanadium inside it stays in place and does not dissolve into the melt, and the yellow comes through steady. Mason marks the stain for porcelain bodies as well as glazes and slips, and sets the ceiling at 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9.
