Robin’s Egg Blue Mason Stain

Mason Stain 6376 Robin's Egg Blue is a pale blue with a green cast, from vanadium locked in a zircon crystal. It is used at the particle size Mason supplies, since stirring and sieving give all the dispersion it needs.

Robin's Egg Blue is supplied ready to use at the particle size Mason grinds it to, and stirring into a glaze by hand or in a mixer disperses it evenly. Hard milling to a much finer powder strips vanadium from the outside of each particle and moves the colour toward green, so a short mix is the better route. Mason marks it for porcelain bodies as well as glazes and sets the ceiling at 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9, with an oxidising firing.
