Zircon Blue Mason Stain

Mason Stain 6315 Zircon Blue is a clean blue with a turquoise cast, from vanadium locked in a zircon crystal. Zircon is among the most durable of the crystals used to hold a ceramic colour, so the blue is steady across a wide range of glazes.

Zircon melts far above kiln temperatures and dissolves very little into a glaze melt, so most of the pigment comes through the firing as crystal. The colour is even at a small addition and stays even as more is added. Mason marks it for porcelain bodies as well as glazes, fired in oxidation to 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9, or below.

  • Marked by Mason for porcelain bodies as well as glazes
  • Ceiling 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9, with an oxidising firing
  • A fired and milled pigment, so it disperses into a glaze without grinding
