Both colourants are locked into the crystal before the stain is bagged, so the green comes through a glaze firing steady and does not shift with the recipe around it. A small addition gives a light green and a larger one a deeper green, with the hue unchanged, so a shade is reached by the amount alone. Mason sets the ceiling at 1260°C (2300°F), about cone 9, with an oxidising firing.
