Spectrum's 150 series fires to a metallic surface. This colour has a matte finish. It needs an accurate cone 05 firing, around 1030°C, and a heavy coat, three generous brush coats or four normal ones. Fire it to cone 05 exactly. Cone 06 is too cool and cone 04 too hot, and a thin or underfired coat comes out a dull matte black or green. Iron or manganese in the clay body can affect the finish, and so can a slow cool or a tightly packed kiln, which grow crystals that dull the metal. Bisque fired in the same load gives off gases that affect the surface too. It is lead-free but not dinnerware safe.
